Martha Cooper Street Shots | 1970-2019 – Photography Exhibition

Documentary photographer Martha Cooper is an icon in the hip-hop world. Martha’s book ‘Subway Art’ co-produced with Henry Chalfant is best known for capturing New York graffiti and hip-hop culture at its rise in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

‘Martha Cooper Street Shot’s is presented by the documentary ‘Martha: A Picture Story’ directed by Australia’s Selina Miles and now showing at the Melbourne International Film Festival and October’s Brisbane International Film Festival.

Catch a selection of the iconic ‘Subway Art’ images in person as well as shots from Japan, Haiti, Baltimore, Berlin and Sao Paulo where Martha seems to always capture life on the edge of society.
