APATA Member Spotlight: ED5 International

Posted by Team APATA | Jul 22, 2021

For 30 years ED5 International has excelled in delivering strong training and technical foundations for young performers helping them succeed in Australia and around the world in the performing arts both on stage and screen. APATA member and Co-Founder of ED5 International, Elena De Cinque, took out the 2020 APATA Honourary Meskell Award for her dedication and contribution to performing arts education.

What an experience to walk through the famous red doors at ED5 International and spend a day with the team! From the warm welcome, touring world-class facilities, meeting ED5 students and viewing the studio’s walls lined with words of inspiration, well wishes, and thank you notes from those who have studied and acquired their skills at ED5 International, not to mention the success stories showcasing those in industry with careers both onstage, screen and where they are now, was truly inspirational.

Watching classes throughout the morning, the studio was a buzz with directors and leading industry professionals coaching best practice and professionalism from the moment you entered the studios, and a level of training, passion and support for students that is second to none. A true testament of the leadership team – Principal and Director, Elena De Cinque; Director, Mario De Cinque; and Director, William Forsythe.

Taking up residency in one of the ED5 International studios, I had the opportunity to sit down with Elena De Cinque and William Forsythe to discuss the audition process, which is just around the corner for many, as they look to take the next step in their careers, tap into the success of the ED5’s team methodologies and learn more about their highly sort after and leading studio in performing arts education.

As beautifully conveyed in our interview, the level of respect the ED5 team has established over the past 30 years with industry is deeply admired. This is clearly demonstrated when an industry professional sends their own children to audition for ED5 International’s next intake – it is a family, it is where they studied, and they know the level of training connects with global practice and with specially designed courses that meets industry expectations in the performing arts.

This interview will provide wonderful insights into the application of the audition process, how to put your best foot forward and prepare, and most importantly to understand and discover that all audition panels want to know about you, learn what you what to do and are human – supportive, caring and willing you on to do your very best.

Thank you to Elena and William, for your time, sharing your knowledge and expertise. A special thank you to Mario – so welcoming on our arrival and working with the APATA team to capture the heart of ED5 International.

Enjoy the beat in the background throughout our ‘Audition Insights presentation with ED5 International’, while recording we were surrounded by classes from music, hip-hop to cabaret! It was awesome!
