Shake & Stir Shakes Things Up With Online Digital Portal

Posted by Team APATA | Jun 9, 2020

Shake & Stir is one of the country’s leading contemporary theatre companies touring Australia and New Zealand since 2006. Shake & Stir produce an annual season of mainstage and in-school productions.

Mainstage work has included: Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, Jane Eyre, A Christmas Carol, The Australian premiere of Green Day’s American Idiot, George’s Marvellous Medicine, Endgame, Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes & Dirty Beasts, Dracula, Wuthering Heights, 1984, Tequila Mockingbird, Out Damn Snot, Animal Farm and Statespeare.

Over the last 12-weeks of disruption the team at Shake and Stir team have developed a unique on-line portal where teachers and students can access the team’s performances online. Each show has been recorded in a ‘live’ theatre environment and also includes performance resources, some interactive additional clips and some fun special features.

Shake & Stir INTERACT is now also ready to go to support teachers and students, where each week classes are available for students to engage with carefully planned, professionally produced and most importantly super fun, 30-minute workshops of creative play online. Shake & Stir have taken drama talk, activities and performance-based games that gets everyone moving to the next level – keeping students acting and keeping them active.

Through acting and imaginative play, INTERACT participants will gain invaluable real-life skills such as listening, flexibility, empathy, resilience, kinaesthetic learning, teamwork, confidence and friendship building.

Each INTERACT lesson follows a structure, each building upon the last:

  • WARM UP
  • TONGUE TWISTER OF THE WEEK
  • IMAGINATION STATION (Performance based activities)
  • CREATION STATION (Home activity & worksheets)
  • WRAP UP (Warm down)

THE LESSONS

Children will be encouraged to go big and bold with everything they do and will be guided to act like no one is watching – so you may hear some very strange noises coming from your living room while your child is INTERACTING.

No need to be alarmed – it’s just a budding creative genius at play! Each week, lessons will be built around a certain theme and will require some simple props – always including coloured pencils and that week’s worksheet (printable from the Shake & Stir INTERACT website) and sometimes an activity may require an item or two that can be found around the house – like a shoebox, a tea towel, an odd sock…

There is a short check list that the team encourages you to look at prior to each lesson, this will ensure participants are ready to go, once the lesson commences. Moments of solo work (using the worksheets) will be completed during the lesson – at this time an on-screen timer will guide the children in completing the task – so simply press play at the top of the class and off we go.

Awesome Program!
