Meet your presenter – Dan Nixon.

As a storyteller, writer, producer and educator earning a master’s in screenwriting from the Victorian College of the Arts, Nixon is particularly interested in creating and sharing work to engage young audiences and performers.

Who is Dan Nixon?

Dan Nixon is the owner and director of Melbourne Young Writers’ Studio – a storytelling education company with a studio based in Melbourne’s Carlton.

Nixon is also co-owner and co-director of Pirate Size Productions – a production company focusing on content for young people and families.

As lead writer/creative producer across a broad slate of TV projects Pirate Size Productions has produced shows for the likes of the ABC and other major international broadcasters.

Dan’s commitment to screen and story education extends beyond his companies as screenwriting lecturer at RMIT and as a mentor for the Masters of Screenwriting Program at The Victorian College of the Arts. Dan has also taught at Victoria University and JMC Academy and sits on the Board of Directors for Fresh Theatre: Theatre for Social Change.

We had the pleasure to sit down with Dan last year and cut a podcast where he shared his journey and passion for writing – Listen & read more HERE

What Dan has to say:

“I love my work and the variety it provides. I’m equally happy when writing, in development on new shows, running writers’ rooms, or teaching and mentoring.”

“I’m constantly working across a slate of screen media and live performance projects, and together with Pirate Size Productions own a large selection of original IP, and regularly sell to some of the biggest broadcasters and companies in the world. I love combining different ways of telling stories together and collaborating with others on new and exciting projects and ideas.”

“I’m passionate about engaging young people in the arts and maintain a strong belief in the power of storytelling as a vehicle for social change. I also write theatre, and often work for some of Australia’s leading and most innovative youth theatre organisations.”
