More than 20 film festivals have united to kick off the world’s biggest film festival with a 10-day streaming event.
The 10-day ‘We Are One: A Global Film Festival’ will feature content curated by the Berlin, Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Tribeca and Venice film festivals, among others, starting on 29 May, in partnership with Tribeca Enterprises and YouTube.
Due to the many cancellations of annual showcases the likes of Cannes and Tribeca, and the closure of cinemas, the festival will showcase films, documentaries, music, comedy and conversation.
The festival will stream for free and viewers will be asked to donate to the World Health Organization’s Covid-19 solidarity response fund.
Twenty festivals from around the world are involved including BFI London Film Festival, Jerusalem Film Festival, Mumbai Film Festival and Marrakech International Film Festival, as well as Sundance Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival.
Tribeca, co-founded by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal in New York, have joined forces with the streaming giants to put on the online event with the aim that the digital program will unite curators, artists and storytellers to entertain and provide relief to audiences worldwide.
