Spencer Howson APATA Masterclass

APATA Member Spencer Howson is a tirelessly curious storyteller.
His career began at Reading Radio (then 4RPH) in 1990. Before heading to the ABC from 1993-2020, including 15 years hosting the top-rating ABC Brisbane Breakfast show.
From 2017-2020, Spencer held the position of Program Quality Advisor, which involved spotting, developing, and coaching ABC radio presenters and producers across Australia.
He is now a Lecturer in Radio Production at the University of Southern Queensland and hosts Weekends (9am-1pm) on Brisbane commercial station 882 4BC. Spencer is a passionate advocate for diversity of voices in the Australian media and has recently completed a Master of Arts researching attitudes towards female radio presenters.
Masterclass: Radio and Podcasting for High Schools
In this 35-minute video, radio broadcaster and University of Southern Queensland lecturer Spencer Howson shows you how to introduce radio and podcasting to your students. He explains why audio remains an important medium, what equipment and software you’ll need to produce a radio show or podcast at your school, and how to get your students thinking about creating powerful audio content for an audience.
