Opera with Puppetry – The Sleeping Beauty

Posted by Team APATA | Feb 19, 2021

Ottorino Respighi’s ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ returns to Victorian Opera this week. Respighi’s created ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ for Italian marionette theatre company Piccoli in the 20s. This production by Victorian Opera will see the return of ‘A Blanck Canvas’ out of this world creations, formerly made for the 2017 Victorian Opera season.

Former street artist, ‘A Blanck Canvas‘ Director and Co-Founder, Joe Blanck, worked for Creature Technology Company before branching out on his own. Here you can watch as the creatures for ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ evolve from the sketchpad to dreamlike 3-dimensional working puppets.

Composed in the aftermath of World War I and the Spanish flu pandemic, Respighi’s opera was a tale for a world on its knees. It’s the call for resilience and celebration that we all need right now.

Victorian Opera presents this opera as it was intended. Magical larger-than-life puppets and charming music draw you into a wondrous dreamscape in this revival of their acclaimed 2017 production.

Embrace the child within and join a resilient community emerging out of dark times with hope. It’s time for reawakening.
