MAX AFFORD PLAYWRIGHTS’ AWARD
Posted by Australian Plays Transform | Dec 9, 2021
Attention young playwrights ages 18-40.
The biennial Max Afford Young Playwrights’ Award created to support your education, improve your creative writing and to encourage appreciation of your artform is now open for submissions.
To be eligible for the award the play you submit cannot have been produced or performed in public or scheduled for production before December 2022. It must be over one hour in duration and must not have received support from Australian Plays Transform in the past.
The award is an initiative of the late Thelma May Afford, who established a fund to offer a periodical prize in memory of her husband and is managed by Perpetual as Trustee.
The Max Afford Young Playwrights Award is a sure-fire injection into the career of the lucky winner.
The prize is $30,000 in total, of which, $15,000 goes to the playwright and $15,000 into creative development with a director, dramaturg and a cast of actors facilitated by Australian Plays Transform.
Former winners include Fleur Kilpatrick [2018 – Whale] and Kirsty Marillier [2020 – Zap]
