We are excited to see our friends at Broadway Teaching Group kicking into gear with the launch of the 2020 Online Broadway Student Summit.

Get in quick for the July 20 – 24, 2020 sessions. [July 13-17, 2020 SOLD OUT]

The Online Summit will feature 7 interactive workshop sessions in Acting, Dance, Voice and Musical Theatre with Broadway’s finest artists as well as personal projects and YOUR OWN PRIVATE 20-MINUTE COACHING SESSION WITH A BROADWAY MENTOR.

Meet the teachers!!

Create your experience to match your goals-

  •  2 ACTING WORKSHOPS AND A SELF TAPE: with a Broadway Associate Director! In the first class, you will learn how to prepare a monologue and an audition scene through easy to follow simple steps that will bring vibrancy and truth to your acting and a discussion about selecting material that highlights your unique humanity, humour and personality . We will also discuss how to create effective ‘self-tapes’ (video auditions) which are becoming more and more prevalent for college auditions as well as professional and academic auditions and learning.
You will then create your own self-tape (video audition) and submit it to the teaching artists. Every submission will receive either written feedback or live feedback in the second class.
In the second class, we will go through a few of the self tapes and discuss their strengths and weaknesses, alternate acting and material choices that could have helped achieve different results, and the goals for continued work. These classes will give you the tools to feel confident in your acting and create your own self tape auditions.
  •  MUSICAL THEATRE AUDITION CLASS AND PRIVATE FEEDBACK SESSION: Taught by a Broadway teaching artist, this class takes us through a typical audition, breaking down the process from preparation to working with a pianist to song interpretation and selection and editing of the right song and vocal range. A guest Broadway star will join us to illustrate their best audition songs, how they selected and prepared them, what shows they have booked (and not booked!) with them, and how they deal with the roller coaster ride of a Broadway audition.
Each student will then receive their own individual private Zoom session with a Broadway teaching artist mentor, to work through their song. We will provide a list of online resources for selecting material and finding accompaniment tracks as well as information about downloading Zoom for free, if you do not yet have it. In your private session, we will explore your choice of material and key, how to excerpt it for audition purposes, how to adapt it for various contexts (college, high school, community or professional auditions), how to make simple and clear choices that are effective and feel personal to you, and goals for continued work.
  •  VOCAL CLASS: with a Broadway musical director, in which we dissect a popular Broadway song from a musical perspective and explore various methods for sounding your best and bringing out all colours in the song.
  •  BROADWAY DANCE: Step into the chorus line as a Broadway dance captain teaches you a combination from a hit Broadway show and takes you through the Broadway dance audition experience.  Perform it on your own TIK TOK VIDEO!
  • PATH TO BROADWAY:  Meet three Broadway performers from HAMILTON, HADESTOWN and MOULIN ROUGE, who will share their experiences, advice, and some great backstage stories. They will also each sing a song they used to audition for their Broadway show!
  •  EVERYDAY MAGIC: Work with Skylar Fox, the Illusions Associate for Broadway’s HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD, on a series of fundamental tricks you can learn right there at home with step by step instructions and a few simple pieces you can find in your kitchen. By the end of the class you will have the building blocks to create your own act – and enhance your theatre and story telling with thrilling illusions.

*Workshops subject to change, coaching via Zoom scheduled based on artist availability.

The Broadway Student Summit is designed to connect theatre students with the Broadway community – and with each other – through a series of workshops, master classes, and an unforgettable experience at a hit Broadway musical.

This summer, in the interest of safety and peace of mind, we are offering an EXPANDED WEEK LONG ONLINE BROADWAY STUDENT SUMMIT, July 20th – 24th, 2020.
